PAN Reg enables the standardised exchange of documents and images between different departments and organisations. This ensures quick, flexible and cost-efficient networking of documents.
PAN Reg fully implements the ATNA* profile of the IHE framework and is a distributed Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing Registry (XDS) System according to IHE. PAN Reg registers and stores metadata in accordance with IHE XDS specifications and manages all references to this data. In addition to storing and supplying data, the management process also involves the authentication of rights, filter functions and expanded metadata containing process information.
Analysis of the medical workflow systems shows that the primary data flow takes place locally. If all data remains – as with PAN Reg – at its place of production, faster and more reliable data access can be ensured. System-wide transfers are only performed on request.
“On-demand” methods combine good response times with economical use of resources. This has a positive influence on user acceptance. Data exchange between individual locations is not patient-specific and is performed in accordance with an authorisation system compliant with legal regulations. Even for public networks, this ensures the highest possible degree of anonymity and the highest standards in data protection. Communication among local registry entities takes place via a network bus with XML data and the HTTPS encrypted transport protocol.
Thanks to distributed resources, individual locations can be easily integrated into the hospital association. If a location cannot be accessed, all other locations remain fully functional.
