PAN Pix
PAN Pix is the PANSOMA Master Patient Index Application conforming to IHE for integrating several patient records into one uniform patient view. PAN Pix is a PIX Manager and is used for patient identification.

PAN Pix is a PIX Manager and is used for patient identification. If a patient is being treated at different healthcare facilities, several records with different identifiers will exist for the same person. The task of a Master Patient Index (MPI) system is to assign a new patient a unique Master Patient Index. For existing patients, the PAN Pix PIX Manager searches in the available data for matches from different records, and is therefore able to create a uniform patient view across several locations. All this data together with the documents forms a collective medical record for the patient.
Like PAN Reg, in PAN Pix all data is stored and managed locally, and external data is only requested as needed. Patient-specific data is not exchanged between locations in the interests of maximum data security.
PAN Pix consists of a HL7v2 and HTTP/SOAP interface and an MPI database that stores all PIX Manager information. PAN Pix implements “rule-based patient match” (RBPM). The demographic data for patients is compared in accordance with various weighted rules. Similarities (e.g. “Mueller” and “Müller”), different spellings (double-barrelled names with and without a hyphen), etc. are taken into account. If cases of doubt, semi-automatic combinations and manual approval can be performed via a web-based interface.
